Sonic V/s Oscillating, which Electric Toothbrush is better?

Sonic Electric Toothbrush Versus Oscillating Electric Toothbrush

Are you amongst the ones dreaming of the magical smile that makes you look more attractive? While the war between manual and electric toothbrushes is hardly the stuff of prime-time news. It is real that electric brushes are the best choice to opt for when it comes to manual or electric brush usage, Let’s find out why and which type of electric toothbrush is better

The market is hit with so many brands and types of electric toothbrushes, however, they can be majorly classified into two broad types based on their technology

1. Sonic Toothbrushes:

Sonic Electric Toothbrush

A sonic toothbrush is an electric toothbrush that uses specific techniques to remove plaque and clean teeth. These toothbrushes generally vibrate at 24,000 – 40,000 strokes per minute.

The sonic technology provides an extensive cleaning experience for your teeth. It not only cleans the surface of your teeth by breaking up the plaque then sweeping it away but also reaches and cleans up the hard-to-reach areas of your mouth.

Sonic technology creates a powerful vibration influencing fluid dynamics. This latest technology forces the fluids and toothpaste in your mouth between your teeth and the gums, creating an interdental cleaning action. This can help in preventing conditions like periodontitis

In the initial phase of using a sonic toothbrush, you might feel a slighter tickling sensation; over time, you will get used to it and reap the super good rewards of sonic toothbrush usage.

Due to the more number of strokes per minute and the fluid dynamics, sonic technology can stand more beneficial for overall oral health.

2. Rotating-Oscillating Toothbrushes:

Rotating-oscillating electric toothbrushes use a back-to-forth rotating motion to cup each tooth and can be as fast as up to 8,800 strokes per minute. Due to the mechanism of the rotating head, the brush has the mighty power to clean your teeth precisely and without any unwanted pressure on your teeth.

Sonic versus Rotating-oscillating: Which is the best?

Many studies proposed earlier are in favor of both sonic and rotating-oscillating technology, but there is very little data available about which technology is best to choose. However, professionals agree that an electric toothbrush is more effective than a manual one. This is agreed!

  • On the other hand, Sonic toothbrushes are considered more effective due to the high level of vibrations they provide.
  • Additionally, vibrations by a sonic toothbrush generate micro-bubbles of water that clean even between your teeth and make your mouth feel uniquely fresh.

Why Sonic Technology Over Rotating-Oscillating?

As the market is currently split between two styles: oscillating, which cleans the teeth with an oscillating brush head or circle; and sonic toothbrush, which leverages sonic technology to move their brush head at a speed multiple times faster than oscillating brushes, both of these types have advantages over manual brushes, but still, there has been a significant debate about which is ultimately “better.”

The user-friendliness of a sonic toothbrush is more like a manual brush with which we are habituated.

Unlike a sonic toothbrush, while using a rotating toothbrush you will need to press the brush head onto each tooth, which may test your patience.

In contrast, a sonic toothbrush lets you make more of a scrubbing motion. The only thing to do is to move the brush head through each zone in your mouth. The vibrating brush hairs do the rest. This is a technique that’s partially similar to the one you use with a manual toothbrush.

While both Sonic and Rotating-oscillating toothbrushes offer excellent tooth cleaning, as dentists like to say, the best toothbrush is the one you will use. Choose a toothbrush that fits your specific needs and preferences to achieve optimal dental and oral health.

We also recommend you get professional teeth cleaning at the best dental clinic near you once every 6 months for a healthier smile
